The maths
The Numbers Behind Every Estimate
Every result in the calculator comes from these simple formulas. No black box.
Cost per sale or lead
CPC ÷ conversion rate
What you pay, on average, for one sale or one lead.
Example: $4.00 CPC at a 5% conversion rate = $80 per result.
Break-even ROAS
1 ÷ profit margin
The return on ad spend you need before ads start making money.
Example: a 40% margin needs a 2.5x ROAS to break even.
Minimum value to break even
Cost per result ÷ margin
The smallest order or lead value that still covers your ad cost.
Example: $30 per sale at a 40% margin needs orders of at least $75.
Profit after ad spend
Revenue × margin − budget
What is left after you pay for the ads, based on your real margin.
Example: $6,000 revenue at 40% margin on a $1,500 budget = $900 profit.
Budget for a goal
Target ÷ conversion rate × CPC
The monthly spend needed to reach a sales or lead target.
Example: 50 leads at 8% and $5 CPC = 625 clicks, about $3,125 a month.
Daily budget
Monthly budget ÷ 30.4
Google Ads works on daily budgets, so this is the number you enter.
Example: $3,000 a month ≈ $99 a day.

What Changes Your Actual Cost
Benchmarks are a starting point. These six factors decide where your account lands.
01
Competition
More advertisers bidding on the same keywords pushes the cost per click up.
02
Location
Big cities and wealthy areas usually cost more per click than smaller markets.
03
Quality Score
Relevant ads and keywords lower your CPC and win better ad positions.
04
Landing page
A faster, clearer page converts more clicks, which cuts your cost per result.
05
Tracking
Accurate conversion tracking lets smart bidding find buyers, not just clicks.
06
Offer
A strong offer and price raise conversion rate more than any bid change.
FAQ
Google Ads Cost Questions
How accurate is this Google Ads cost calculator?
It uses industry averages, so treat the results as a planning range, not a promise. Your real cost depends on your keywords, location, website and offer. Use your own CPC and conversion rate for a sharper estimate.
Where do the benchmark numbers come from?
The default values come from the LocaliQ 2026 search advertising benchmarks for US Google Ads search campaigns, covering 23 industries.
What is a good ROAS for Google Ads?
It depends on your margin. Your break-even ROAS is 1 divided by your margin, so a 40% margin needs 2.5x just to break even. Most businesses aim for well above that.
How much should a small business spend on Google Ads?
Start with enough budget for about 100 clicks a month in your niche so the data is meaningful. Use the budget planner to see what your sales or lead goal needs.
Why is my cost per lead higher than the benchmark?
Common causes are broad keywords, weak ad relevance, a slow or unclear landing page, and broken conversion tracking. A free audit can show which one applies to you.
Can you help me lower my cost per result?
Yes. We audit your account, fix tracking and wasted spend, and improve targeting and landing pages so each sale or lead costs less.
